While sifting through old family photos, U-M alum Edward Mears stumbled upon a striking image from the 1930s: his late grandmother, Estelle Veronica Mears, standing beside a young Chinese man named Benjamin King. Both were students at the University of Michigan at the time. But who was Benjamin King? What did he study? How did he and Estelle become friends—and what became of his life after he returned to China?
